Nasrin Mohammadi

Biography
  • Nasrin Mohammadi, an Afghan artist, was born on August 27, 1984, in Herat, Afghanistan. She privately studied painting in Mashhad and has been working in this field for over 20 years.
  • On May 26, 2023, she held her first solo exhibition titled "Shadow" at the Bon-Bast Gallery in Mashhad. The works presented in this collection, characterized by a realist style with a touch of surrealism, reflect her personal experiences and emotions. The Khorasan Newspaper highlighted the "Shadow" exhibition on June 15, 2023.

  • The "Shadow" series narrates the stories of women who, in their pursuit of unattainable security, are both present and absent—unrecognized by geographic, gender, and political identities. Nasrin Mohammadi’s realist paintings depict faces, Afghanistan’s indigenous culture, and social issues, without the interference of her imagination or personal interpretation. Each subject is presented as seen in the real world.

  • While symbolism emerged as a reaction to realism and impressionism, Mohammadi uses symbols to convey meanings indirectly. Her mastery in creative execution, understanding of composition, and use of improvisation make her art a voice for her fellow Afghans and a reflection of the social and personal impacts she has experienced throughout her life.
