Restoration Of Rare 3rd-Century AH Vellum Quran.

Description

A rare 3rd-century AH Quran was restored by the Department of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Works at Astan Quds Razavi. According to the Public Relations and International Relations Office of the Libraries, Museums, and Documentation Center of Astan Quds Razavi, Hassan Ahsan, a restorer of manuscripts and documents at the organization, stated that this Quran measures 40 x 30 cm, contains 129 leaves, each with 22 lines, and is written in beautiful Kufic script. He added that the diacritical marks of this Quran are rendered in striking and radiant red dots, and some of the surah headers feature inscriptions decorated in saffron color. He also mentioned that the vellum leaves of the Quran were damaged at the spine and the top section, which were restored through two months of continuous work. A beautiful cover was also crafted for this rare Quran, using traditional patterns consistent with the artistic characteristics of the 3rd-century AH. It is worth mentioning that approximately 17,000 rare handwritten Qurans and Quranic booklets are currently preserved in the manuscript treasury of the Astan Quds Razavi Library.
